Advanced Treatments

Endodontics

Endodontic treatment ie Root Canal Treatment, is the removal of infected or damaged nerves inside the tooth. The entire nerve chamber and the root canals are cleaned, disinfected, filed and sealed. This treatment can save a tooth which would otherwise have to be extracted.

Endodontic therapy can be completed in one appointment but normally in 2 – 3 visits. It does not matter how many visits it takes – the price remains exactly the same, however – they should never be necessary! Do not wait for pain. Please let me treat your problem long before there is the need and the expense of root canal therapy.

Prosthodontics is the repair, replacement and restoration of damaged, missing or unsatisfactory teeth to create healthy natural–looking restorations

The intention is to restore aesthetics, function, and comfort of the teeth, your smile, and your comfort when chewing. This has been covered during the explanation of fillings, inlays, crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures and dental implants.

Periodontics

The single biggest reason for tooth loss.

As time goes by, our focus of attention shifts from the teeth, to what is happening below the level of the gums. “Periodontal” literally means “around the tooth”. Periodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting tissues of the teeth.

Periodontal diseases are infections of the gums caused by bacteria in the plaque that destroys the gums and supporting bone that holds your teeth in your mouth.
You will need periodontal treatment if your

  • Gums are red and swollen
  • Gums bleed while brushing
  • Breath smells bad
  • Teeth feel loose
  • Teeth are drifting apart and spaces are appearing

Do not stay away.
Periodontal disease is the primary reason for tooth loss.
The earlier we discover problems, the more effectively we can treat them.
Pain is not the criterion.
A full mouth x-ray shows us exactly what is happening and we can then discuss your options.

Oral Surgery

Oral surgery is the diagnosis and surgical treatment of injuries and defects involving hard and soft tissues of the mouth, teeth, gums, jaws, head and neck. I can take care of all minor oral surgery such as the surgical removal of fractured teeth and the surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth.

Frenectomies (the surgical modification of lip frenum)
Apicectomys (the removal of a chronic abscess and peri-apical granulomas)

You will not need to be referred. There will be no delay in your treatment and no extended discomfort. If you have a problem, I can solve it.

I was the resident GP Surgeon for the Reading Sedation Clinic for 13 years and prior to that, I had the benefit of working with very experienced Oral Surgeons for 14 years in South Africa .
You will be referred for all pre-prosthetic restorative surgery for dental implants and anchored dentures.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that replaces the root portion of a missing natural tooth. Titanium is very biocompatible and the dental implant fuses with the bone and becomes a secure anchor for the replacement tooth.

Dental implants can be used to replace single or multiple teeth in both the upper and lower jaw. They can also be used to anchor full dentures, which is a wonderful contribution to modern dentistry.

Dental implants are “the top of the range”. They have revolutionised restorative dentistry and are the most advanced technological treatment option available. They offer permanent replacement of loose and missing teeth and can be an alternative to wearing dentures. They are the best possible option to rebuild confidence with a secure smile and wonderful function.
Dental implants are not always possible. Not least because they may not be affordable, but they are an option and we can discuss them with pleasure
